Wall Street Journal: New York's Double-Edged Hotel Boom

There was a time when travelers in Brooklyn and Queens struggled to find overnight shelter, thanks to the sheer paucity of hotels. Excluding a few airport inns, the New York Marriott Brooklyn Bridge, opened in 1998, was the borough’s first new full-service hotel since Herbert Hoover was president. The developer, Joshua Muss, says he was often told that “a hotel in Brooklyn is a piece of pork to a kosher butcher shop.” read more at Wall Street Journal >>

CURBED NY: BAM Cultural District Hotel Plans to Involve Local Arts Groups →

In February, plans were announced for a 200-room hotel in the BAM Cultural District, and we chatted with a member of the development to get more details about the 30-story, Thomas Leeser designed tower soon to rise at 95 Rockwell Place. Mitch Garrett, Vice President of Acquisitions and Development at VOS Hospitality, Second Development Services' partner on the project, sent along a few more renderings, telling us the design is trying to "literally fracture the mold" with a sliced facade featuring crevice-like cutouts....read more at Curbed NY >>

As its expansion of the BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn and UrbanGlass complex nears completion, Leeser Architecture is embarking on its next project in the Brooklyn Downtown Cultural District. The Brooklyn-based firm has been tapped to design the new 200-room Rockwell Place Hotel next to The Theater for a New Audience. CURBED NY: 200-Room Hotel Planned for BAM Cultural District →

The BAM Cultural District is getting another new tower, this time a hotel. The Post reports that at 200-room hotel will be rising at 95 Rockwell Place, not far from the 32-story apartment building planned by Two Trees.
