FIELD CONDITION: Dock Street Dumbo

September 17, 2014

Curtain wall installation has reached the 14th floor at LEESER Architecture and Ismael Leyva Architect's 17-story, 290-unit rental near Brooklyn Bridge Park. The glass curtain wall features vertical fins, yet to be installed, of opposing triangles that define irregular shapes which help to break down the relentless glass envelope. The Two Trees development will also contain a 300-seat middle school and retail at its base. see construction photos at Field Condition >>

Gaze into the glass façade of the DUMBO developer family's Dock Street project, on the left side of  this new Brooklyn Eagle photo. That's the famed Clocktower Building you see reflected there. It's only fitting that the project in progress should serve as a mirror for its century-old neighbor. read more at Brooklyn Daily Eagle >>

ARCHITECTURAL RECORD: Brooklyn's Architectural Moment →

June 20, 2014

Until five years ago, the stretch of Flatbush Avenue between the Manhattan Bridge and Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn was an architectural wasteland. The strip started coming to life with a small project (WXY’s skillful security booths for the MetroTech center), then with a very big one—the Toren, an SOM-designed condo tower with an unusual, dimpled-metal façade...read more at Architectural Record >>

CURBED NY: BAM Cultural District Hotel Plans to Involve Local Arts Groups →

June 28, 2013

In February, plans were announced for a 200-room hotel in the BAM Cultural District, and we chatted with a member of the development to get more details about the 30-story, Thomas Leeser designed tower soon to rise at 95 Rockwell Place. Mitch Garrett, Vice President of Acquisitions and Development at VOS Hospitality, Second Development Services' partner on the project, sent along a few more renderings, telling us the design is trying to "literally fracture the mold" with a sliced facade featuring crevice-like cutouts....read more at Curbed NY >>
